EN 10025-6 Grade S620QL1 quenched and tempered (+QT) introduction

S620QL1 is a fluid tempered high-strength fine grain weldable steel and a min. yield point of 620 N/mm². It is applicated for steel structures, e.g. bridge and load-carrying constructions, transport vehicles, lifting and earthmoving machines. The normal thickness span is 3 to 50 mm. Lowest application temperature -60 deg. C. The steel is cold forming processed, i.e. at temperatures below highest tolerable stress relieving temperature of 530 to 560 deg. C. After hot forming above 580 deg. C has to be conducted a repeated tempering in order to achieve delivery condition qualities. The steel is combustible and fusion cuttable subject to appropriate operating method. Surface condition influences flame cutting. Preheating up to 100 - 200 deg. C is advisable for workpiece temperatures below 5 deg. C and if flame cutting edges are cold formed on further processing.
Instructions:
The steel is suitability tested for steam boiler and pressure vessel construction according to instructions valid for Federal Republic of Germany (VdTÜV-Werkstoffblatt 257).
