DIN 17182 Grade G8MnMo7-4 quenched and tempered (+QT)
DIN 17182 Grade G8MnMo7-4 quenched and tempered (+QT) introduction
In comparison to the unalloyed cast steel grades according to DIN 1681, the materials of this group show distinctly higher values of the notch impact energy. As a result of their low carbon content (0.23 per cent maximum), they are well suitable for welding. The material G8MnMo7-4 is applied in welded composite constructions for greater wall thicknesses. Because of its ability for precipitation hardening, the desired properties can be adjusted to a large extent without taking the wall thickness into account. The material possesses an extremely low carbon equivalent and, therefore, is still weldable without preheating and subsequent heat treatment with greater wall thicknesses, too. G8MnMo7-4, which shows high fatigue strength, is comparable with the fine-grain structural steel StE 355 or TSt E355. It is applied for big constructions in the offshore-area or in other building construction.
