ASTM A106 Grade A material specification properties

ASTM A106 Grade A introduction

ASTM A106 Grade A

ASTM A106 is the standard for carbon steel seamless pipes established by the American Society for Testing and Materials. This standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment requirements, inspection methods, etc. of carbon steel seamless pipes used for high-temperature services. ASTM A106 Grade A seamless pipe is divided into two grades: A and B. Grade A is equivalent to domestic 10# steel, and grade B is equivalent to domestic 20# steel. Grade A steel has lower strength but better plasticity and toughness; Grade B steel has higher strength but lower plasticity and toughness.

The common specifications of ASTM A106 Grade A seamless pipe are:

  • Outer diameter: 1/8 inch to 24 inches
  • Wall Thickness: 0.065" to 2.0"
  • Length: 10 feet to 40 feet

ASTM A106 Grade A seamless pipes are widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, boilers, power stations, ships, machinery manufacturing, automobiles, aviation, aerospace, energy, geology, construction and military industries.
